The Dollhouse

January 13, 2016

If you have been an avid reader from the start, you know that my mom, mother in law and I painted a beautiful mural of a tree and butterflies and birds in Hallie’s room before she was born.  This mural was like a little gift to Hallie from her Momma and her 2 adoring grandmothers.

You also might know that my Mom’s health is not the best and that she has been suffering from Colon cancer now for years.  I recently had a realization that when we move out of this house that mural would be painted over and Hallie would no longer be able to enjoy this gift from both of her grandmothers.
So I bought this Dollhouse at a garage sale at the end of my Mom’s street one day for $20.  It was a nice pottery barn one that only needed some paint.  It became my intention to fix it up with the colors of her room and give it to Hal for Christmas with some new dolls. I was telling my mother in law about my great buy, and she had an even better idea! Why not paint a mini mural on the dollhouse so that when we move, the mural can live on! I told my mom, and she too thought it was genius!!
We got to work.  I didn’t even mind that Hallie got to see it before Christmas because she got to be part of making the memory.
The dollhouse turned out lovely! Hallie adores it and I am glad that my mom’s painting will live on even if she isn’t well enough to help me paint a new nursery when we move.

Wow that is an amazing idea!!! I love how it turned out. My mother was recently diagnosed with Colon cancer and I wouldn't wish it on anyone but it is nice for know you are not alone!

Aww I love this! I hope your mom is well enough to make another mural when you move – and for many years to come!
