March 20, 2021

I am finally getting around to sharing all of Elise’s sweet birthday photos! If you are in the DFW area, be sure to check out JC Photography and Design.  Jennifer is so talented and a pro with wiggly babes! I am so in love with each and every photo! I’m so glad that Nick the Ostrich made an appearance! Jennifer captured Elise’s sweet 2 year old nature perfectly and I will forever be grateful for these memories!

Elise Claire- 2 years!

February 23, 2021

The slowest yet quickest 2 years have just blown by, leaving my baby a 2 year old.  Elise Claire, you are 2! When you woke up yesterday you called Daddy and exclaimed “I’m 2, I’m 2 I’m 2” over and over again.  That is so you baby girl! You are just so joyful! I hope you never ever lose that joy!

A little about you at 2:

  • Age- 2 years
  • Weight-  2nd-5th percentile (1 lb smaller than sister)
  • Length- 25th-50th (SOMEHOW passing up big sissy in height by 1/2 inch at the same age! )
  • Size- 3 in diapers though we just started working at the potty training thing.  Size 12-18 months in most everything else.
  • Eyes- Brown
  • Hair- Goldie Locks!

  • Favorite Foods- EVERYTHING! Milk, cheese, yogurt, meats, pasta, spinach and kale which you will eat straight from the garden, berries, and any and all sweets! You like beans now too! Oh and French Fries.  If you so much as hear a take out bag you immediately request FRIES PEEESE!  For your birthday dinner you requested beans and fries!
  • Milestones- You can count to 10 and know all of your colors.  You spell your name but can’t yet identify letters. Love to sing and dance.
  •  Memorable moments- Thanks to Covid we haven’t done much.  You did however have your first Urgent Care visit just over a week ago.  When climbing a stool you were told not to, you fell cracking your head on the tile and getting a nasty goose egg.  Your rendition however goes like this “Got a bobo, go to doctor, got Hank (the yellow rubber ducky they gave you), go home, eat chicken and fries and watch Cinderelaaaaa!” In case you are wondering, you did not learn your lesson.
  • Favorite toys/activities- Climbing! You love babies and stuffed animals, and are SOO good at naming them.  You have an Ostrich named Nick. Dogs named Comma, Sandy (after Annie), Franny (After Elizabeth’s dog), and Nelly (After our neighbors dog. You have a cat named Pitter, and an elephant named Mittens. There’s a dolly named Lulu. Oh and don’t forget the Rubber Duck, Hank. You love your princess castle and ice skating rink.  Cinderella, Moana, and Frozen are your favorites. You cook up delicious treats for everyone in your kitchen and say “I make it for you!” Love listening to music with Daddy and Memi and watching Elephants with Pop. You love to build with blocks, cups, etc.  Your still attached to your blanket, and must sleep with that and Nick.  Reading is another favorite, and you will shove a book in my face and say “Read it!!”  You and Sissy still play horses and vet. You love Dancing with Momma.  She loves Stella and other animals. Ostriches and Elephants are your favorites! You are so snuggly and Absolutely love to cuddled and be kissed and hugged.
  • Words/sounds- You talk SO MUCH! Some of momma’s favorite things you say are “I be your baby forever” and “Happy Day Daddy” You say “Dokie Dokie” You call Pajamas “Jamanas”.  When someone hugs you you ask “You love me?” When I tell you not to climb on or touch something you will say “Okay, I just look!” which sometimes is a complete lie, and you end up taking a bite of charcoal as soon as my back is turned! I am sure I have a thousand more funny things you say! I probably can put an entire post together..maybe I will.
  • Nicknames-Peanut or Peanut Butter, Chicky, E or E-Claire, Goldie Locks, Sister or Sister Golden Hair
  • Looking forward to- Leaving the house and having experiences with her again! She is just a dolly!

Honestly, you are exactly what our family needed.  You are silly, and smart, and shy, and smiley, and sweet, and snuggly, and we just love you to pieces!!!

Festive {Easy Sew} Valentine Garland

February 3, 2021

Happy February Friends! I know it has been a while. The end of 2020 really caught up with us! We did thankfully have a wonderful Christmas though Celebrations were small this year it was quite perfect.  We really got time to just enjoy spending time with the girls and watching them play with their new toys from Santa.  Usually we are in such a rush to visit extended family we don’t get time to soak up those special moments and I will truly cherish this year’s Christmas memories forever.

New Years was also blissfully quiet.  We ordered in Chinese and piled up in our bed to watch movies.  It was perfect.  After New Year’s we started to get back into the swing of things.  Hallie continues virtual school, but for her mental health we did start bringing her to both ballet and karate once a week.  They are socially distanced, wear masks, and take extra cleaning precautions, so we feel pretty safe.  Gosh she needed that outlet too!

Well just as we were starting to hit our New Year’s groove, the Coronavirus also hit our house! We were all very lucky and healed up pretty quickly, though I am still nursing my sense of smell.  So now we are finally hitting our second groove of the New Year! I am excitedly planning our next few holidays/birthdays over here! Elise and Christopher both have birthdays this month! I cannot wait to share Elise’s 2 year photos and all about our little toddler!

Today however, I am sharing an easy yet festive Valentine craft, because it has been so gosh darn long since I did a DIY!

Festive Easy Sew Valentine Garland

Materials:

  • White Felt
  • Light Pink Felt
  • Red Felt
  • Bright Pink Felt
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread

How to:

  1. Cut about 5 white pentagons out of the white felt (About 4inches tall) These will be your envelopes
  2. Cut an equal amount of small red hearts to “Seal” your envelopes.
  3. Next cut 6 hearts (about 2 inches tall) in both pinks
  4. Fold the bottom corners of your pentagons in and fold the bottom up to the middle creating this shape shown below. Sew along the edges to close the bottom half.
  5. Next fold the top down in a triangular shape and sew the red hears in the middle to seal each envelope with a single stich.
  6. Once all 5 envelopes are done, alternate stringing a light pink heart, a bright pink heart and an envelope each with a single stitch onto some festive colored thread. I stitched the hearts through the middle and the envelopes through the top.
  7. Hang and enjoy!

We hung ours in Hallie’s little “School Corner”.  I try to change it up for each Holiday/Season so it makes it feel  a little like a classroom.  If you make one, tag me @happilyevermock! I can’t wait to see!

Halloween Coloring Pages

October 18, 2020

Hi friends! We have had quite the busy weekend! We did squeeze in baking some homemade monster cookies and a little trip to the pumpkin patch. I tried to get a great photo of the girls and I in our matching Halloween Dog shirts that I made, but the only good photo I got was of this cute girl:

Anyway, I am uploading the artwork for my Halloween Puppy Drawing as well as the Monster one from a while back in case your kiddos want something festive to color for Halloween! What are your Halloween plans this year? 2020 has been so strange, I just don’t know the right thing to do.  I think our plan is to put together some Boo Bags and Trick or Treat to Family and Friends.  Would love to hear what everyone else is doing though!

Anyway, enjoy these coloring pages! And as always, tag me @Happilyevermock if your kids color, I would love to see!

Elise Claire 18 Months

September 17, 2020

I am so sorry sweet second child of mine.  I am always behind on your updates. The picture was taken on time, however between virtual school and chasing after you, updating this little corner of cyberspace has been hard to get to.  Also, please don’t ask me about your baby book.

Almost a month ago you turned 18 months and you are just so much fun! You are silly and snugly.  You love to help and will exclaim “On it!” anytime we ask you to do something for us.  It is my favorite thing ever.  “Elise, can you bring me your cup?” “On it!”” “Sweets, can you help Momma clean up this mess?” “On it!” It warms my heart how helpful you are.

In other news, you are finally on the weight charts! HUGE Hoorah! Here’s what 18 (almost 19 months) looks like for sweet Elise Claire.

Age- 18 months

  • Weight-  18 lbs 1 1/2 oz which is BARELY on the charts, but I will take it! For reference, Hallie was 18 lb 8 oz (So yay! You are catching up!)
  • Length- 30 1/4 inches.  For reference Hallie was (32 inches) Looks like Elise will be shorter like her Momma.
  • Size- Just like sister at this age, we mix and match sizes of clothes depending on style of clothing and brand.  Mostly she is wearing 12 month pajamas, 9-12 month clothing with some 6 month stuff mixed in.  The other day though she was wearing a 3-6 month outfit still so there is really no rhyme or reason to sizing.  We are in size 3 diapers though.
  • Eyes- Jury is still out on eye color.  They still appear grey mainly.  Sometimes brown.  We are getting checked next month for astigmatism though.  Anyone deal with this with their littles?
  • Hair- She is our little blonde girl! Momma likes to call her “Sister Golden Hair”
  • Teeth- 11! We have started to get molars! Poor thing sometimes wakes up chewing on her hand and seems in pain.
  • Sleeping- She is a night owl and it takes her a while to give up the ghost.  She usually is out by 9, and  sleeps until 7 and we get a 2 hour nap in the afternoon.
  • Eating- Girlfriend loves her milk and will request “Milky” First thing in the morning and at bedtime like clockwork. She still eats everything. Favors cheese, fruit (blueberries and “Apple-oss”/Applesauce), Daddy’s BBQ, and Avocado. She is obsessed with “FRIES” and refuses to eat anything else if they are on her plate. Anything sweet is a “Coo-kie” which she will ask for “PEEEEESE!”

  • Milestones- Talking a ton! Lots of phrases, small sentences and has over 150 words for sure (That’s when I stopped counting anyway) She says all the characters of Mickey Mouse, loves frozen and can sing a lot of the songs.  She can say her name and age.  Can identify 2 objects, counting “1, 2” She can say several animal names and make their sounds.  She especially loves the “Babee Bunny” that hopped into Daddy’s store. She climbs on everything…seriously everything! Understands feelings and is very in tune with everyone’s.  She can say “sorry” and will even apologize for sissy sometimes.
  •  Memorable outings- Not many thanks to Covid.  We did recently take the girls to a drive through zoo which she loved.  She cracked up at the camel that drank from Hallie’s water bottle.  She also loved the donkey’s and screamed “Donkeeee” The whole way home.
  • Favorite toys/activities- Enjoys coloring, painting and playdoh.  Loves stuffed animals, the princess castle, dress up Minnie and Daisy, the dollhouse, blocks, cups, etc.  She loves her blanket and will request “Bankee” for nap and bedtime.  Really enjoys books. Enjoys playing with Sister’s horses and Frozen toys. She loves music and dancing.  She loves to sing too! Especially Mickey songs and the music from Frozen. Sister is her favorite person ever and she makes her crack up! She wants to do everything Hallie does. She loves Stella and other animals. Sweet girl will ask to be tickled. Absolutely loves to cuddle and be kissed and hugged. Especially first thing in the morning.  She needs her cuddles like Momma needs coffee!
  • Words/sounds- Like I said, SOOO many!! Here are some of my recent favorites: “Daddy’s Home!” “See, baby Bunny, PEESE!” When Hal rides her scooter, she will exclaim “GOOO Sissy!” When she says Mickey Mouse, she will draw out the OU in “Mouse” but make sure to add the S at the end. It is hilarious! Says her food is “Nummy Nummy”
  • Nicknames-Peanut or Peanut Butter, Chicky, Sweets, E or E-Claire.
  • Funny moments- Sometimes if you ask her a question she’ll say, “Hmm,Umm” and tap her chin. If Hallie is in another room, she will yell “Anne” or “Sissy Anne”. We were playing chalk on the driveway and she started walking to the back gate. I told her to come back and she told me “Busy, Bye” She insists every house needs a dog. Especially my Dads.  She will say “Bapa House, Dog Peese”, Sometimes I tell her “I’m going on an Elise hunt” and start creeping toward her. She squeals, laughs and runs to be caught. The other day she got down low like she was creeping and said “Go Sissy Hunt!” it was so cute!
  • Looking forward to- Leaving the house and having experiences with her again! Hopeful we can somewhat normally celebrate these upcoming Holidays with her because it is so magical at this age! Halloween, Christmas, etc.

6 Years of Hallie Anne

July 29, 2020

Well it has been quite a while since I did an update on big sister! Hallie and her personality are growing by the day! Hallie girl, you have taken this pandemic head on and have been so brave and adapting to our ever changing world!

Kindergarten, though it was cut short, was just the best experience for you! You made so many friends and just adored your sweet teacher who is now one of your heroes!  I know no matter what 1st grade looks like, that you will succeed! You’ve flourished so much this past year and holy cow you are reading like a champ! Mom and Dad are so proud of you!

You have the very best sense of humor and love to make people laugh! Mommy and Daddy are so proud of the big girl you are becoming! You stand up for what is right and have such a good moral compass! Especially if you have a friend being picked on! You are always the first to stick up for them. I can’t tell you how proud that makes me.

We have taken a break from Ballet since the pandemic hit, but are looking forward to going back as soon as we feel safe! We were so looking forward to watching you in your first ever Nutcracker production this year.  I guess that will have to wait until next year. You still practice dancing all the time and even teach Elise steps every now and then too.

You are killing it at Karate.  Even though classes are on zoom, much to your dismay, you are now a blue (ALMOST PURPLE!) belt! You have big dreams of being a black belt one day, and I just know you will make that dream come true!

You are the very best big sister ever! Elise loves you so much and looks up to you in everything you do. You both love to sing along to Frozen 2 and you requested a Frozen 2 birthday cake this year!

Hallie Anne, you are so smart and still memorize all the facts you possibly can about animals! Wild Kratts is still your favorite show.  We had a blast taking you to see them live in January! Since we couldn’t have a real party this year, we had fun making our car into a safari van and delivering animal cupcakes and party favors to some of your friends! You love cheetahs the most and aspire to run as fast as one some day. You still want to go to Vet school when you grow up and want to be a vet or a Zoologist! If you had your way, you would also have a show just like the Wild Kratts, “but all girls!” Along with the Kratt Brother’s you just love Bindi Irwin and dressed up as her for Halloween!

You love artwork and spend so much time drawing and creating! You also love science and building and enjoy tinkering and inventing things with Daddy and Uncle Adam.

Being outside on your new scooter is one of your favorite things ever! You also learned to swim this Summer and even jumped off the diving board!

You love love love your Stella girl, and take such good care of her!

Sweetest bean you are just growing so dang fast! We are so blessed that you are our girl and love you so very much!

Summer Play and Learning

May 26, 2020

***This post may contain affiliate links***

Hey, 2 posts within days! Can you believe it?

This kid right here is officially a 1st grader! What? Her teacher and school have been amazing! Though we missed them the last 9 weeks of school, they gave her everything she needs to be able to move onto 1st grade come Fall.  It’s bittersweet.

Hallie loves learning, and is constantly asking me to do homework! I of course do not want her to lose skill or momentum over summer.  Especially since the reality of what school will look like come Fall is a huge question mark.  So today I am sharing the apps, workbooks and resources we will be using over the summer to keep Hal’s brain sharp, along with some of our favorite imaginative play tools. I am a huge believer that young children learn through play!

Workbooks and More

As far as workbooks go, a friend of mine who has a degree in Elementary Education recommended these 2 (linked below)  and they are working great for us. They both bridge Kinder/1st and have a variety of subject material with the bulk being in Language Arts and Math.  Hallie loves that she can track her progress with stickers, and I love that both books give fitness activities to break things up.

We also love all of the books by National Geographic Kids.  We have a subscription to their magazine and Hallie has several of these Big Books. I will link some of our favorites below, but you can pretty much find one on any subject your child wants to learn about.

Workbook1/Workbook2/NatGeo1/Natgeo2

Flashcards and Apps

Other materials we are using are these flashcards (linked below) , which I like to play Sight Word games with.  There are a few ideas in this post of mine for Dallas Moms as well as a bunch of indoor activities.

Hell might have well frozen over, because this no iPad family had no choice but to give Hallie a tablet to use for distance learning these last 9 weeks.  The apps we have been using (AND LOVE) came straight from Hallie’s School district.  Epic, which has over 40,000 books for kids.  They can search books on their class level or reading level and books based on their interests! Hallie loves the variety of nonfiction books about animals that she can read all by herself! Even if out district didn’t offer a login for this I would shell out the cash for the download! It’s AMAZING!

Another one we use is Teach Your Monster to Read.  It is really good for sight word practice, and it makes it a game so it’s fun for the kids.

Flashcards

Imaginative Play and Artwork

We do a lot of imaginative play and artwork in our house as well.  Hallie and I both have sketchbooks and she enjoys sketching along with me. I make coloring pages (Like the ones here) for her to color and she does the same for me.  We also play the “Squiggle Game”.  We take turns drawing random squiggles for each other to turn into artwork.  It always ends in fits of giggles! Another friend of ours suggested this game, and Hallie loves it: You come up with a silly drawing prompt, and the whole family has to sketch it out.  Examples include: Draw a pizza with 3 silly toppings, sketch what a monster’s birthday party would look like, or draw a dinosaur in a crazy outfit.  I love watching what Hallie’s imagination comes up with!

Sketchbooks

We also love building! I am linking below our favorite building toys! Hallie loves to build barns for her horses and houses for her tiny toys (squinkees, mini boos etc)

Building1/Building2/Building3

Two other fun games we play are Veterinarian and Restaurant.  We have the Vet set linked below as well as a Doc Mcstuffins vet cart that is a hand me down from Hallie’s cousins.  I will link a similar one.  Hallie has trained Elise to bring her the Animals and we call her the “Vet Tech” and Hallie is the “Vet”. She knows so many facts about animals that this game is a way for her to put them to good use!

Vet Set/Vet Cart

For Restaurant we use our play kitchen, and cash register.  Hallie makes a pretend menu and is the chef and waitress while I am the customer.  She could play this game ALL DAY! She counts the money and puts it back in the drawer and doesn’t even realize she is doing math! Win!

Kitchen/Play food/Pots&Pans/Cash Register/Table Settings

I am hopeful I create enough of a balance this Summer for her of fun and learning so that she will be successful going into 1st grade.

What are your favorite learning and play materials for kids?

Elise Claire- 12 and 15 month updates

May 22, 2020

This poor neglected little blog.  I have goals to resurrect it over the Summer with some useful information, thoughts on life and a gosh darn photo or 2 of Hallie! It slowly became a place for me to dump info on Elise so that I wouldn’t forget it and then 12 months hit and I really just abandoned it all together for a while as I dealt with all of the changes and feelings regarding Covid and having a toddler.

So without further ado, Elise turns 15 months today.  Fastest 15 months of my life.  And yet, the last 3 somehow seemed fast and desperately slow at the same time.  I know other moms can relate.  Here is a little update on sweet Elise:

  • Age- 15 months
  • Weight-  We go next week for her checkup, so for now I will share her 12 month stats: 14 lb, 10.5 oz (Hallie was 15 lb 1.5 oz, so close, though E might pass her up for the 15 month numbers.
  • Length- 27 inches (.5 inches smaller than sister)
  • Size- At 12 month we were still rocking the Size 2 Diapers though recently I sized up to 3’s only because she was having leaks at night.  Then again this kid likes to down at least 2 sippy’s of milk right before bed, so I am not sure it’s the diaper…we shall see. I feel with clothes she is all over the place.  Mostly wearing 6 month clothes, but every once in a while can go up or down. Pjs 9-12 month for length
  • Eyes- Brown I think
  • Hair- She is our little blonde girl!
  • Teeth- We currently have 5. She had 2 by 12 months
  • Sleeping- She is a night owl and it takes her a while to give up the ghost.  She usually is out by 9, and  sleeps until 7 and we get a 2 hour nap in the afternoon.
  • Eating- We successfully made the switch to whole milk and she LOVES it! She still eats everything. Favors cheese, fruit (blueberries), and recently started asking for “coo-kies!”
  • Milestones- Talking a ton! Little phrases here and there. She started walking around 14 months, and is now on the go! For a while she liked to sit down if you noticed her trying to walk! So modest! Gives real kisses now and LOVES to show affection. Mimics animals.
  •  Memorable outings- Zoo trip, smash cake, 1st birthday party…then Covid hit, and we have just been home.
  • Favorite toys/activities- Recently she started coloring and LOVES that. Loves stuffed animals, the princess castle, her violet puppy and puppy from sister, blocks, cups, etc.  She loves her blankets.   Really enjoys books. For her birthday we got her a board book with our family photos and she absolutely adores it! Enjoys playing with Sister’s horses and vet set. She loves music and dancing with Momma. She is starting to dance on her own too!  Loves the baby shark song, pat-a-cake, head and shoulders and I’m a little teapot.  Sister is her favorite person ever and she makes her crack up! She loves Stella and other animals. Elephants are her favorite and she makes Elephant sounds and makes a little trunk with her hand as she does it.  Mommy plays Rolly Polly with her which makes her laugh. Absolutely loves to cuddle and be kissed and hugged.
  • Words/sounds- Exclaims “Mo Mail”- No mail every time we check the mail, even if we do have mail. Legitimately sings the songs from Frozen 2, Told my father in law recently “Pop, I colorin!”, Says “Mo! Mmm Mmm” when she doesn’t want or like something.  Asks for “Coo-kies”.  This age is so fun!
  • Nicknames-Peanut or Peanut Butter, Chicky, E or E-Claire
  • Funny moments- ANYTIME she sees Elsa or anything from Frozen she sings “OOOOhh Oooooh!” In her sleep the other night she started singing it too! So funny!
  • Looking forward to- Leaving the house and having experiences with her again! She is just a dolly!

Coloring Pages

May 6, 2020

I definitely owe this blog an update on Miss Elise.  If nothing else than for me to have one day to look back on.  But life guys! Covid 19 came in with a vengeance and shook things up real good.  Now I am juggling Mom, Teacher, Wife etc.  Oh and to make matters more fun (SPOILER ALERT) Elise is officially walking and into everything but at the same time just as clingy as ever.  It’s a lot.  I have nothing left some days. You feel me moms?

I didn’t intend for this to be a therapy session, but actually to share with you something fun I have been doing to deal with the stress and anxiety of the Shelter in Place order.  Drawing.  I decided to dust off my old sketchbooks and make some fun coloring pages for Hallie.  I must say she is loving it and can’t wait to see my newest additions.  She even likes to give me ideas for what to draw next.  (ANOTHER SPOILER ALERT) There’s a fun zoo theme coming at you soon with a drawing of Hallie’s all time favorite animal, a cheetah!

For now, here are 4 fun coloring pages I have made.  Feel free to print them out for you or your kiddos to color! Share with your friends and family. And pretty please tag me in your artwork @Happilyevermock I would LOVE to see your creations!
