Hallieween Through the years

October 31, 2017

Happy Halloween! We are so excited to share Hallie’s Halloween costume with you! First, lets take a little walk down memory lane and recall her costumes from the past.

For Hallie’s first Halloween, she was a bunny and I was a magician.  I even made a black hat to carry her around in!I had my heart set on the bunny costume, because that’s what I was for my first Halloween.

For Hallie’s second Halloween, she was obsessed with Mickey Mouse Club House. Donald and Daisy were her favorite characters, so I made her Daisy Duck and she carried around a little Donald toy.  That is until her treat bag got too heavy to only use one hand and Miss Independent put Donald on the ground, told him to “SIT!” and dragged her treat bag all by herself the rest of the night.

Last year for Halloween, Hallie insisted on being a mermaid! She was the cutest Ariel I have ever seen and even used the correct terminology when combing her hair with a “Dinglehopper” Since we tossed out the pumpkins last year and before we finished all of the tootsie rolls, Hallie had decided that this year she wanted to be a Unicorn.  So without further ado, here is the Unicorn ensemble that Hallie and I came up with!

I made the Tutu, Tail and Hooves. T-shirt- June and January. Unicorn Horn- Ashlilium. And as always the photos are by the very talented Purple Moments Photography.

The Little Braids in her hair were just the icing on the cake of the sweetest costumer ever!

We hope everyone eats a lot of mini snickers bars and has a wonderful and safe Halloween!

Shop Share- Ben the Rooster Christmas Cards Part 2

October 25, 2017

‘Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la, la la la la! Yes, I know it isn’t even Halloween yet, but remember a couple months ago when I shared about Ben the Rooster Christmas cards? Well they came in, and they are absolutely precious! Just to remind you, in Ben’s Paper Shop you can purchase a set of custom greeting cards.  Your little artist creates their masterpiece on a template and then send it back to Ben. Once the cards are finished, Ben sends the cards back to you.

The cards are amazing quality and Hallie was ecstatic to see her artwork on a real card! Ben even puts your artist’s name on the back of the card as a nice added touch.

The best thing about this project is that the profits are used to donate subscriptions of Ben the Rooster’s Pen Pal Unit to Title I classrooms.  Since Hallie started Ben the Rooster her vocabulary has blossomed and her handwriting and drawing skills have grown immensely. I have no doubt that Ben the Rooster is a positive impact on the kids in these schools as well.  Hallie couldn’t wait to get started addressing her cards right away! She is thrilled to spread holiday cheer to all of her family and friends, all while doing an educational project. It’s really a win win!

It’s not too late for you to get started, so head to Ben’s Paper Shop now!

Chicken Noodle Soup- Homemade Noodles

October 11, 2017

As soon as the temperature starts to drop here in Dallas, you can find me cooking up a big pot of soup. Our first pot of soup this season was a staple, Chicken Noodle. It was actually really good timing because Hallie came down with the sniffles just the night before.

Soup Ingredients:

  • 2 TBS Olive Oil
  • 1 Large yellow onion chopped
  • 2 tsp garlic minced
  • 3 Carrots Chopped
  • 3 Celery Stalks Chopped
  • 2 Cups of shredded Chicken
  • 1 can of green beans (or whatever veggie you prefer)
  • 12 Cups Chicken broth (I use bouillon powder but use slightly less powder than recomended on package to prevent it becoming too salty. Add to taste)
  • 1 TBS chopped parsley (I use fresh but you can use dried)

Noodle Ingredients:

  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 ts salt

Directions:

  1. Start by making the noodles. Mix All ingredients together and form a ball.  If it is too wet add extra flour. Too dry add a teaspoon of water.
  2. Mix and cover bowl with a towel for 30 minutes
  3. While you are waiting start on the soup.  First, in a large soup pot add olive oil, onion and garlic and let cook over medium heat until onions start to look translucent.
  4. Add celery and carrots. Cover opening only to stir occasionally, until veggies become tender.
  5. Add chicken and green beans.
  6. Add broth and turn up the heat. Bring to boil while working on noodles.
  7. Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut long ways into long skinny strips.  Then cut into about 1-2 inch noodles.
  8. Once the pot is boiling drop noodles into pot. Add parsley.  Let cook for about 3 minutes. Reduce heat and serve!

Dallas Arboretum- Wizard of Oz Pumpkin Patch

October 9, 2017

Happy Monday Friends! This weekend was one for the books.  My Dad and his fiancee Linda made Hallie’s dreams come true with a fun trip to the Dallas Arboretum.  You see, Hallie’s very favorite movie right now is The Wizard of Oz, and the Arboretum’s Fall theme was just that.  Between the adorable theme and pumpkins and gourds everywhere, Hallie was just in awe taking everything in.  Of course she insisted on wearing her favorite Wizard of Oz dress and Ruby Slippers.

It was precious! They had a yellow brick road that led to little houses made of pumpkins.  In each house there was a painting of a scene from the movie.

Then of course there were Dorothy’s trusty friends, The Scarecrow, The Tin Man and The Cowardly Lion.

To top things off they had a horse of a different color, Cinderella’s carriage and Pumpkins that spelled out “Oz”

We all had such a wonderful time, and Hallie has been gushing about all the things she got to see since we left! This is by far the best pumpkin exhibit we have ever seen, and we can’t wait to go back!

Have you been to a Pumpkin Patch yet this year?

Pumpkin Bread Recipe

October 4, 2017

I made my first Pumpkin recipe of the season tonight, and it is going to knock your socks off!

Pumpkin Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Cups Flour
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Cup Pumpkin Puree
  • 1/2 Cup canola oil/vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix dry ingredients first then add in wet ingredients. Spread into a loaf pan or 2 mini loaf pans. For normal size loaf pan bake for 50 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.  For mini loaf pans cook for 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely before removing from pan.

While in the oven I mixed up this delicious cinnamon sugar cream cheese. I blended 1 8 oz block  of cream cheese with 3 TBS of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
